YIPPEE Volume 54
February 2009

February 2008:

February 2008:

YIPPEE's Sitework Saving Super Simple Summary

This month's Summary includes only 2 things:

-What Did You Work On? (aka Sitework & Hours)

-How's It Going? (aka QUIKEE Transmissions)

Gone are the days of creatively summarizing and finding the themes of the month. Its all about getting as much work done as possible. Not that Feb's hours show it. We can blame that on Cassandra's dentist trip and subsequent weeks of illness. We'd blame AT&T, but they already get a hefty portion in our weekly YPP disclaimers!

Where are this month's pics?

Well... (at the time of this writing) they're sitting on a computer waiting for formatting and uploading. If you want to see pics, the best way is to sign up for YPP...

YPP: Weekly phone-pics selection (usually 2, small in size) sent to your email inbox. no text or description other than the filename is included. Just the pics!

QUIKEE: A somewhat daily short note (160 characters or less) - to your email or mobile phone - from the C's. Email description was sent out on Feb 3rd.

Additional info on either of these can be obtained by emailing and/or txting the C's.

QUIKEE Transmissions Feb '08

QUIKEE, Quack! Update Is Keeping Everyone Engaged, began on Feb 4th. Here are the transmissions, in chronological order, with one addition (Cass typed it up but forgot to finish and send), and a few txt transmissions for the day Chris & C&J spent at HH cleaning and plywood cutting/sealing.

Wed Feb 4, 2009 8:06 pm

Q} Numb toes=Stumbly downhill snowshoeing. Cold Ouch! Broken thermometer says 20F; more like 0! Turkeys care not where they turd. C&C care!

Thu Feb 5, 2009 11:06 pm

Q} Ferocious! Frigid! Wind! After: lusciously melty choco-chips in thick warm oatmeal, dusted w/sugar crystals. Mmm. Tasks done 11PM; Whew.

Fri Feb 6, 2009 2:53 pm

Q} Chris provides temp perspective: "Cass, the house fridge is warmer than the yurt. 40F is not warm. Let's look fwd to a Not-So-Cold wknd."

Sat Feb 7, 2009 4:04 pm

Q} all floor, wall & ceiling boards are installed in utility shed. Many are reclaimed scraps, thanks to Cass' keen eye ;-) for arranging

Sat Feb 7, 2009 6:40 pm

Q} Um...So why are toes&fingers numb? Oh, of course...15F isn't warm! Technically, does qualify as "Not-So-Cold" but we did NOT lunch outside!

Sun Feb 8, 2009 7:20 pm

Q} Nrrrwuaaagghhh! On advice of a trusted expert, Chris deploys ScareTurkey. It echoes. Its loud. It scares turding birds away.

Mon Feb 9, 2009 7:59 pm

Q} WAS going to be about relative warmth/progress but NOOO! Woodsmoke blast in face/broken stove. Don't ask. Cusses may break loose again.

Wed Feb 11, 2009 10:44 pm

Q} Goody! Cass says we can do battery-room floor w/existing scraps & sinktop's ready to cut. Too bad I can't build a yurt from Nebraska.

Wed Feb 11, 2009 10:44 pm

Q} Tropics/Tundra: >90F in one yurt; <32F another; somewhere between outside. Dome snow let go. Yurt warmed tad. No Thaw-Cass break needed!

Thu Feb 12, 2009 3:38 pm

Q} ATT's "less-than" svc can't handle "less-than"# combo w/o a space. Yurt was< 32F. The >isn't similarly restrained. Nor are <& <@ <; <: FWIW

Fri Feb 13, 2009 11:02 pm

Q} we have sink! (or, we have a HOLE for a sink, and we OWN the sink, but we are not sinkerated just yet)

Fri Feb 13, 2009 11:35 pm

Q} Everything's put away. Two minutes to spare for a Chill-Side jam-a-long! Friday schedule works great!

Sat Feb 14, 2009 7:47 pm

Q} XO Snow Art; Bright Red Sweatshirt; Impromptu Valentine Haikus; Cacaos; Sunny Deck Heart Sandwiches; Tunes & Extra Building Togetherness!

Sun Feb 15, 2009 6:05 pm

Q} Powerhouse roof is prepped for insulating. Bathroom wall has more boards & looks spiffy. More wires are connected. Driveway has less snow.

Tue Feb 17, 2009 5:46 pm

Q} Reeks like a smokehouse inside PA yurt. Too much stress! Cass tries to prep for tomorrow's excursion AND build AND cope w/camping problems.

Sun Feb 15, 2009 7:00 pm

Q} Ratchet Strap use #523: backwoods makeshift safety harness (This is proven effective; it saved Chris when he fell off the PH roof! Yippee!)

Wed Feb 18, 2009 4:13 pm

Q} Cass Survives Dentist Trip - Will Build Another Day!

Wed Feb 18, 2009 4:24 pm

Q} Driving back in snowstorm.Did OK til end.Chris had to carry me out to truck after.Dentist did best he could. Now to Camp & on w/recovering!

Thu Feb 19, 2009 9:18 pm

Q} Camp is not conducive to recovering, esp solo. Some shoveling. Barely coping w stove, chores, broken door. Hopes for less smoke to sleep.

Sat Feb 21, 2009 7:24 pm

Q} Still hurting from DentalTrip, weary from a Virus, Our Heroes set snowshovels to stun, plow ahead, capture & defeat SnowZilla!

Sun Feb 22, 2009 8:10 pm

Q} 1 (unexpected snowstorm) + 2 (under-the-weather C's) = 7 (hrs of planning&figgerin'). If all goes well, PH to see signifig progress soon!

Mon Feb 23, 2009 2:33 pm

Q} When snowplow tire chain breaks for 2nd time do you a) fix it again or b) try a new approach? Chris' answer on Wednesday...

Mon Feb 23, 2009 5:18 pm

Q} Is Wednesday AnswerDay? If so:  When-o-when will Cass stop hurting, start being recovered and have a "normal" (and no Quacking!) site day?

Wed Feb 25, 2009 3:30 pm

Q} Fell asleep w/window open due to smoke; forgot trickle too; lucky no frozen pipes/Cass! Shoveling finally done; tiny bit o' Non-Quacking!

Tue Feb 24, 2009 (would have been, if Cass hadnt forgotten to send it)

Q} Yup, deck should be 6ft higher off ground (oh yes) to accomodate snow! Paper Towel Saves The Night: helps Cass close door/she won't freeze!

-or-

Q} Shoulda: Built deck 6ft higher off the ground (oh yes!) to accomodate snow; not got our hopes up and known the employer could do an about-face! Sigh...

Wed Feb 25, 2009 4:31 pm

Q} the answer you've been waiting for is: chris will repair chain as before and hope winter ends soon!

Thu Feb 26, 2009 10:30 pm

Q} Cass thinks might be on upswing. After 3.5hrs outside, downhill again. (literally, too, haha!) Past 2 wks site time updated. Frustrations!

Fri Feb 27, 2009 8:02 pm

Q} Weekend's fare is wrapped: spicy, savory, ready to eat. Rain falls gross on snow so deep. Squash! (sluggish skeeter... fait a' complete!)

Sat Feb 28, 2009 7:31 pm

Q} In Unusual Solo Sat, Cass tries long work session/got overly cold. Barely 20F. Alcove board install almost set, except to find a new board

Sat Feb 28, 2009 (not QUIKEEs, but some txts from Chris to Cass, re: progress at house that day)

8:51 am I have already sliced thru my thumb. Thankfully only surface cut. The J&C are decontaminatin' and I am prepping the garage.

10:20 am cutting with the Jere!

10:46 am connie n jere. Connie says "haiiii Caass". Cold in the carhole. Warm inside. Connie listenin to staind via ipod.

1:10 pm hey u. Luan is cut. We is lunching too.

1:18 pm house looks much cleaner!

1:56 pm bedroom before last plywood removed!

2:43 pm Floor is cut

3:06 pm Ply is out

4:05 pm connie + scrubberthingy = holy clean sink!

5:20 pm last board is cut!

6:58 pmBoards inside for sealing. C&J are changing to head home

7:11 pm Been a real long time since I sealed in house.  Ugh. .

8:42 pm plywood

10:54 pm One of tv loft boards is done.

Sat Feb 28, 2009 8:47 pm

Q} (chris - cass) * (jere + connie) / plywood + 2(saws) = clean hellouse + PH walls & floor. I always hated math but J&C added fun to house.

And so...February Ends, with Chris sleeping at Po-O-Cham hellhouse on an air mattress, Cass on the Park Ave loft bed, both wiped out -albeit for different reasons. Tomorrow begins another month. Only four months to go and... many, many, many hours of site work...

2/10/09213.36Site cleanup (general and for Cass safety)0.25misc in 30' - realize we need better place than loft for boards storage? or cover w/paper maybe- to keep from sunfading?

2/17/090Notes0stress. mega. cass has soooooooooo much to do for tomorrow and in advance like all the thurs tasks. woodstove decides to be extra extra nasty and yurt smells-reeks- like a smokehouse all day long. disgusting. cass sick. not a great way to go into a trip that has high potential for sickness and debilitation. grrrr.
2/17/09329.02Construct walls and loft - 30' yurt: wallboards1.5finished getting final boards attached for sink wall and found start board, marked for doing the next wall. ready for chris to cut
2/18/090Notes0no site work today. well... wouldn't have been any except stovepipe needed cleaning and chris' computer battery froze and so he chopped firewood instead of working in AM while cass did the 1.5hrs AM chores. cnc prep and travel to dentist appt in MA. return in snowstorm. shovel path back to yurt. shower/decontam/chris gets stuff put away from trip/fire going... fire sucks. stove is awful. smoke is awful. then appt w/helen doesn't go so well. more smoke. cnc end day with over an hour of being exhausted but having to clear out smoke before tolerable enough to crash.

2/19/090Notes0snow was heavy wet and compacted down to about 6inches or so. cass out of it in AM, chris off kilter because plan was to have him do fire and let cass sleep but given last night-and recent days- problems, didn't want to add smoke to cass' difficulties. chris works up on bed while cass does some modified AM chores. "warm" enough to skip fire til almost noon. chris ends up going to house to keep work schedule/appointment, cass accepts that this is way life goes at camp yippee and shovels/does fire after stablizing a bit first. more laying down and recovering. at least some of driveways done, more to do tomorrow but urrrrrggggghhhhhhh.....not a good place to recover for sure.
2/19/09310.96Snow Removal ala Cass1.25small session in morn just to get solar panel clear to charge and expand some of what chris did, some of park ave done

2/21/090Notes0some kinda bug is bringing chris much worn-outness and snifflies and such: draggin. Cass hurting a LOT from dental trip/detox/eposures/stuff, but pushes snow like a …well, not dragon. That would just melt it and burn the whole deck down in process. At one point, chris took a little sit-down break while cass shoveled to the sounds of redneck gunshooting and chris doing his best old-man story teller schtick, telling the tale of the winter of the unlaced boots; chris can keep a low level yammer really flowin and going and goin!
2/22/09329.16Sitework Plans&Figuring7planning, measuring for PH wall/floor cutting
2/22/090Notes0chris gets a sleep-in kinda morning to help rid the bugaroo. Cnc work on PH walls/ceiling stuff, chris goes and measures a bunch, chris helps w/some of eve chores to let cass carry on with calcs, since chris is still not assignd for work, a plan is hatched for getting ply cutting info & the luan to house (where most ply already is) so chris can cut it. the jere's offer is accepted and he's called for plan arrangements to have him help wed/stay over in PA yurt and help cnc install on thurs. chris does other work in xterra in eve during 1.5 shower chores. only one task all day; unusual but true!
2/23/090Notes0Chris mixes a morning of CIBER-work and Site-work
2/23/090Notes0cold wind. chris gets up n plows then works in xterra til snack break, loads ply in trailer, trash etc, lunch w/cass and ply cutting info, off to house for working. odd schedule, but the two c's happy to c each other

2/23/09310.69Snow Removal ala Chris1.25Plowing - chain on main rear drive wheel breaks. no more traction! d'oh. at least driveway has a clear path, though not very wide.

2/24/090Notes0ugh ugh ugh. cass sooooooooooooooo bad off. so much snow. windy and cold air. brrr. door closing problem as sposd to be in single digits. fixed w/paper towel (folded and in lower section to help "lift"), but then so smoky that had to have window open anyway. grrrr.
2/24/09310.96Snow Removal ala Cass3.25cass struggles a LOT all day, just to get through the day and especially getting through so much snow shoveling. deck definitely should be 6ft higher off ground, would make it so much easier!
2/25/090Notes0cass forgot to turn on trickle last night and fell asleep with window wide open, very cold night, very cold morning. thankfully, insulation must be doing its job as the water didn't freeze. woohoo. sun ended up coming out which was nice. cass really out of it most of day, didn't get much done. finished some shoveling here and there. getting dressed and undressed for outside work worse. but was nice to be in sun for lunch chat w/chris. smoke and ash gross gross in park ave. new plan for the jere -hope he can do it. cass finally does bit of building stuff as 30' was "warm"! wanted to do more, but today is sposd to be the weeks cleaning day.
2/25/09310.96Snow Removal ala Cass1finished up shoveling, including what fell into wire paths. skipped woodshed, hope "warm" enough next day or so to release - and/or will get tomorrow
2/25/09742.01JaBoSTH: Non-Quackers0.5scraps labeled and off sink walls, cleaned up some stuff from last wall work session, couldn't get vac batt out of canister, looked &tried fitting bath half wall electrical cutout, sanded fit and marked aspen for bath window.
2/26/20090Notes0rain then cloudy and damp/cold, then sun bit here and there and when it was out, warm. Inside 30' def not warm! Much colder in there :( After getting thru morn chores, Cass started feeling like maybe could see light at end of tunnel and that finally could begin wrapping head around chores and bldg and schedule/life here. but no such luck. by time got some work up topdone was feeling quite bad. ughhhhh

2/28/090Notes0Jere & Connie come down for a helping hand at house
2/28/090Notes0never - nowhere near -hahaha- yeah, right - no way it ever even approached 40. cass somehow believed sunny equals warm. and for a little while it was "warm" "enough" in 30' but not long and feeling sick and overwhelmed and got waaaay too cold. bad off badly bad off by time back to yurt to do firewood and start cold and warm up and eat something :( unhappy day. it seemed inocuous enough to begin with. sun was nice. cass originally psyched to get up top and get to work on walls but ....oh well.
2/28/09213.24TV loft adaptation1.5tried router. doesn't do what I want. used saw and drill. does what I need. router to clean up channel. one of two boards are done.
